Dear Fellow Farmers Union Members My name is Tammy Basel and I am a cattle and sheep rancher from western South Dakota. Agriculture has always been a part of my life I as live on the property that was homesteaded by my Grandmother. The near century family farm now includes; my husband Dallis, two sons and their families, and my 3 grandchildren. I am proud to announce that I am running for Vice President of National Farmers Union. I believe my dedication to Farmers Union and passion for agriculture make me an ideal candidate for Vice President. I have been active in South Dakota Farmers Union for over 20 years. Other accomplishments include:

  • National President of Women Involved in Farm Economics (2010 and 2011).
  • Appointment to two terms on the GIPSA Advisory Committee (2010 and 2013).
  • CBH Cooperative Director since 2004, current secretary/ treasurer.
  • South Dakota Sheep Growers Association Director, current treasurer.
  • Recently appointed to Cattlemen’s Beef Board by USDA Secretary Vilsack.

It has been my goal to bridge the gap between rural an urban communities. As such I have been engaged in numerous activities promoting agriculture to the general public, with a focus on our nation’s youth. Lastly, I am proud to purchase my insurance through a Farmers Union insurance agent. Our agents are a fantastic resource out in the countryside. If elected, I would work hard to grow our agencies and build the relationship with our agents. I now ask you for your support and your vote for NFU Vice president. Thank You. Sincerely, Tammy Basel
